Training & Development

Commitment – Investors in People

Torquil Clark have always been committed to the training and on-going development of its people, because our success depends on us getting the best out of everyone. As the process of organisational change moves the company forward, we seek to ensure that we provide continued support.

Training and Development contributes to the provision of a motivating work environment and the development of an individual’s confidence in their abilities.

As an organisation we seek to improve our overall performance through the learning, development and management of our people and through the development of effective business strategies.

An individual’s contribution to the organisation should be recognised and valued.

Responsibility for training and development lies with the organisation, the training team, the line manager and the employee.

The recording of training and development

Line Managers should identify pre-training and through the use of a learning and development plan

  • Skill/knowledge/competency gap to be filled
  • What training is appropriate
  • Why the specific training or development is needed
  • When the training or development should happen
  • What are the objectives of the training or development

Line Managers or Trainers delivering training should:

  • Identify objectives for each training session ensuring that these link to individual and organisational needs
  • Where possible incorporate core values

Evaluation of training and development

With any investment organisations want to know that they have received value in return for their investment, and hence they want to be able to evaluate the success of any training and development activities.

Evaluation is in three parts:

  • Prior to the training, this includes discussion and agreement of training at induction, probation meetings and performance review meetings.
  • Immediately after the training
  • Six months to one year after the training

From the above information, the training team will look at individual, team and organisational levels to ensure that the training and development is:

  • Meeting the individual, team and organisational training objectives
  • Being used in the work place
  • Beneficial
  • Of the right content, and where not, will review that particular programme
